3-D Printing FAQ’s
What is 3-D Printing?
3-D Printing creates physical objects by layering a malleable material according to a digital program. Marshall Public Library’s 3-D printer utilizes a plastic filament.
Who can use the library’s 3-D printing service?
Any library patron can use the 3-D printing service.
What can be printed?
Any .stl format file approved by library.
Where can I find a design?
Websites like thingiverse.com have pre-designed files, or visit tinkercad.com to design your own for free.
Are there limits to what can be printed?
The library has two 3-D printers, one with a bed just under 8 inches square and the other’s bed is about 5 inches square. Because the printers must be monitored during operation, all jobs must be printed while the library is staffed and cannot take longer than 12 hours to print. If you have further questions, see the contact information listed below.
How much does it cost?
$1 for every hour of print time, paid when you pick up the completed item.
Can I bring my own filament?
Marshall Public Library only allows printing with filament the library supplies.
How long does it take to receive the item?
Once accepted, your request will be processed as soon as possible, and generally will be available within two weeks. We cannot, however, guarantee a delivery date.
How do I initiate a 3-D print request?
