July 9 – October 31, 2025

An old-fashioned craft is getting a vibrant new spin at Marshall Public Library! From July through November, the library is inviting the community to take part in a creative and charitable endeavor, The Granny Square Project.
The idea is simple and meaningful: for each book read, participants will crochet a granny square inspired by the colors on the book’s cover. Finished squares will be collected and stitched into afghans by volunteers, then donated to the Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency (SEICAA) in November to benefit their Veterans Housing Project in honor of Veterans Day. SEICAA supports veterans facing homelessness by offering them transitional housing, which is where the afghans will be placed.
The specific granny square pattern for this project is available here: The Granny Squares Project Pattern. Completed squares should be submitted with this form listing the book’s title and author. They’ll be displayed in the library, and participants are encouraged to share photos on social media. Participants can drop off their granny squares at the library through October 31.
Need help or want to craft with others? Join the library’s Knitting and Crocheting Group every Wednesday from 3:30-5 pm. For questions or to volunteer to crochet the squares together, contact Amy Azzouzat at 208-232-1263 ext. 106. If you’d like to learn more about SEICAA’s veterans services, contact Angie Rogers, Veterans Services Coordinator, at 208-232-1114 ext. 146 or visit https://seicaa.org/veterans/.
